Eyeshadow Face Off: Tarte v. Urban Decay

By on June 19, 2019

This is a battle between the Tarte Rainforest of The Sea Highlighting Eyeshadow Palette Vol. III Versus Urban Decay OG Palette

After receiving my Boxycharm last month, I realized that Tarte Rainforest of the Sea looked exactly like my Urban Decay palette.

The Urban Decay palette I am referring to is now discontinued, as I bought it half off at Ulta and saw multitudes of them at Nordstrom’s Rack. However, I still wanted to show the difference because Urban Decay does have really similar colors in their other palettes.

When I first saw the Urban Decay palette on sale, I nearly had a cow. It was my first “brand name” makeup purchase. I wanted to love it so much!

However, the real test for eyeshadow is making it through a softball game without half falling off.

Urban Decay (1, aka dead palette)- Comes with a Brush, Comes with mirror. Neutral colors, shimmers, and darks. There is a good variety of colors, but I usually stick with one or two color themes and the palette offers about four.

Would stay on, but just enough to know it was there at some point. Color on the lid was pretty much non-existent.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea: All colors have at least a bit of shimmer, Comes with mirror, Simple variety of light neutral colors. You can see the light colors.

I happened to wear this palette the game that I got hit in the face with a ball and a black eye resulted following the swelling. This eyeshadow stayed on that’s for sure. The next day I was still trying to carefully get all of the shimmer off of my eye.

Urban Decay: Doesn’t stay on eyes for long time, no black color included (but there’s a dark blue), light colors don’t show up as well.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea: No brush. Palette fits a specific tone.

I feel like I became biased the second that I was able to try out the Tarte palette. I feel like there’s just not a comparison with a palette for every-day use. I realized that I like shimmer, and not everyone likes having the shimmer at all times of the day.

If you like the matte base color where you can then add the subtle shimmer, then Urban Decay is perfect for you.

For me, personally, I’m all about the glitter and shiny part of the eyeshadow and this Tarte palette fits that need.

Boxycharm: FOMO March Box Review

By on April 12, 2019

*Disclaimer: Thoughts are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinion of anyone else.

I have been looking at subscription makeup boxes for a long time and last month it was finally time to get one. I was in the market for some new makeup, so I scoured the internet for comparisons of all the different subscription boxes. While Boxycharm was more expensive ($21) versus Ipsy ($10) or Birchbox ($13), it was frequently noted that Boxycharm had full sized products and not mostly sample sizes like the other two.

I did purchase this box in late March, just late enough to miss the regular box, so I received the FOMO box. Boxycharm said that the box would get 15 days to get to me. It only took 12, but it felt like the longest 12 days of my life.

Upon receiving the box, I was so excited! The only disappointing thing was that some of the content’s packaging in the box was slightly bruised. It would probably be the products that you would pick around at the beauty store. Regardless, my happiness grew as I got to review the contents.

Tarte Rainforest of The Sea Highlighting Eyeshadow Palette Vol. III: MSRP: $36

I really loved this palette! Even the brown colors have shimmer. These colors are just wonderful and stayed on my eyelid like eyeshadow should do.

Superhero Mascara – IT Cosmetics: MSRP $24

I actually really liked this mascara. It only took a few swoops to match/surpass my other fiber mascara that has two steps. There is a definite difference in volume. I would say that I would be included in 96% of people who saw dramatic volume & length, and plumper looking lashes (that they advertise on the box). This mascara is also cruelty free.

Bright All Night Energizing Sheet- Tula Probiotic Skincare: MSRP $24

My road roommate Gina and I tried on these sheet masks after a long travel day and practice. To take out the mask and put it on was kind of like a puzzle. My face had a slight burn with it on, so did Gina’s by her nose. However, I still wanted to wait and see the results of the mask. About a half hour later my face is as smooth as a baby’s bum. Pretty awesome.

It’s nice, but I would like to see how this compares to cheaper facemasks. I probably wouldn’t purchase it on my own, but I’m not a facemask connoisseur yet.

Powder and Soft Glow Kit – MODA Brushes: MSRP $29.99

These are brushes. I did a test with some powders and highlights and they seem to work well. Essentially, these brushes do their job. I really like how the handles feel in my hand and the color of them is really pretty.  These brushes are cruelty free and vegan.

Opaline Top Gloss – Oryza: MSRP $14.99

I like the color, glossiness, and the sparkles! It does make your lips feel pretty dry, so put on chapstick beforehand. but I’m so happy to have a gloss it doesn’t matter to me.

Closing Thoughts:

Total MSRP: $128.98

The price-point is definitely there. I would say that this box was with the $21 that I put in. The products were useful to me and I will continue to use them.

I am excited to get April’s box really soon.
